NEW ORLEANS—It was with joy that Emily Domain, a financial advisor, spoke about the Shen Yun Performing Arts performance she saw, on Feb. 19, at the Saenger Theatre.
“It was really nice, I loved it; thought it was great,” said Ms. Domain.
“I thought the show was spectacular, I like the special effects (animated backdrops), and I like the way that they introduce different techniques.”
At the heart of Shen Yun is classical Chinese dance, an ancient art form passed on and evolved from dynasty to dynasty throughout China’s millennia-old history. The New York-based company also presents folklore and ethnic dances from different regions of China, and boasts a unique orchestra that combines classical Western and Chinese instruments, hundreds of colorful hand-made costumes, animated digital backdrops, and award-winning vocalists.
Shen Yun’s culturally rich programs take audiences on a journey through China’s history and culture, portraying tales and myths from ancient China and moving stories from the current situation in China.
Ms. Domain said she enjoyed the educational aspect of Shen Yun, and said she learned more about the Chinese culture through the performance.
“It was just pretty amazing to be able to watch in person,” she said.
