SAVANNAH, GA.—Samuel Taylor had seen advertisements for Shen Yun Performing Arts for years, but on March 12 he drove by the company’s own tour bus—Shen Yun was in town, and it was now or never.
“I said, I can’t miss this. I have to stop what I’m doing,” said Mr. Taylor, who trains business professionals.
“Last minute, and I got so lucky,” he said.
On March 12, Mr. Taylor attended Shen Yun at the Johnny Mercer Theatre at Savannah Civic Center, and found the experience “mind-blowing.”
New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company. Through music and dance, Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, sharing with audiences the beauty of China before communism.
“It’s just such a long, rich culture and I just love to learn more about it. Beautiful,” he said. The performance inspired him to learn more about the traditional Chinese culture, and he said he wanted to delve into the origins.
“The culture is very profound,” he added.
Traditional Chinese culture is divinely inspired culture, and Shen Yun artists say they seek to practice what they present, striving to live by traditional virtues like truth, compassion, and tolerance. After the performance, Mr. Taylor picked up “Zhuan Falun,” the primary text of the spiritual discipline Falun Gong, which Shen Yun artists practice.
“I'd love to learn more about it,” he said.
Mr. Taylor said the classical Chinese dance left the biggest impact on him, and every aspect of the production had melded into that.
“The dancing was absolutely mind-blowing,” he said. “It was absolutely incredible. I’ve never seen so much precision and accuracy with so many dancers on stage at one time.”
To the artists, he had only words of encouragement.
“Oh my gosh, just keep doing what you’re doing. That was absolutely incredible and so far beyond what I expected to see,” he said.
