MANCHESTER, UK—Shen Yun Performing Arts delighted the audience at the Palace Theatre on Jan. 18. Fran Sumpter, a doctor, said: “It’s been really enjoyable—amazing stories, great singing, and great music. Loved it.”

Shen Yun features singers performing in the bel canto style with lyrics that carry a spiritual meaning, something Dr. Sumpter enjoyed.

“They were very different, with religious undertones to it, which I wasn’t expecting. But very, very meaningful, she said.”

Like many in the audience, Dr. Sumpter commented on the power coming from the performance on the stage. Dr. Sumpter said it was “very, very vibrant. A lot of energy to it. There was a lot of range to it: different styles, different variety. But it was very, very energetic, all of the dancing they were doing.

“They were definitely radiating loads of energy through the performance. And I could see this in the style of dance and the energy they were giving off. They were really caring about what they were doing, and definitely giving off a sort of spiritual energy.”

Asked if she would recommend Shen Yun to friends, Dr. Sumpter said: “I definitely recommend it. It’s been really enjoyable to watch. [I’m learning] a lot of things I didn’t know about Chinese culture today. So I definitely recommend it.”
To the artists in the production, Dr. Sumpter said: “They’re all really talented. They’ve taught me a lot. It’s been an engaging way of learning about history and culture. So, I’m very grateful. They’ve been amazing and really, really good music.”

Ian Wilson, a business director, expressed his experience of Shen Yun’s performance as “wonderful. It’s been a beautiful experience.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive traditional Chinese culture before communism. Mr. Wilson spoke on the topic: “That would be a wonderful thing in many countries, in many cultures. We’re all too late to revive cultures. I hope it’s not too late. That’s the same in many countries.”

Shen Yun is banned in China and suppresses many with spiritual beliefs. “But the persecution in some countries is far worse than in others,” he said.

Shen Yun Performing Arts is now touring its all-new 2025 production to over 200 cities across five continents, and this proves to be its most engaging ever.
