This Little Mouse Loves Cleaning Up Man’s Work Tools in Shed Every Night Without Fail

Hailing from Britain, the house-proud rodent was caught on film tidying up a pensioner’s workbench in his garden shed every night. Now, the video is going viral, sparking up conversations among viewers on social media.

Seventy-two-year-old Stephen Mckears, a retired electrician, first noticed his plastic clips being mysteriously moved around in his shed overnight in Severn Beach, South Gloucester, United Kingdom, in February, MailOnline reported.

He realized the plastic clips were not only being shifted around, but they were also put away nicely in an old ice cream tub filled with peanuts, which he used to feed the birds.

It happened every night for a month. And each night, more objects scattered on his workbench were arranged in the tub.

Speaking to SWNS, Mckears said, “The heaviest thing was the plastic attachment at the end of a hose pipe and the chain of an electric drill.”

“One day I emptied the tub out and spread the contents on the side—and the the [sic] next day they were all back in again,” he said, according to MailOnline.

Mckears thought he was crazy. Was he seeing things? Or did someone really tidy up every night?

His kids suspected it was a ghost who took it upon himself to clean the scattered items on his workbench.

To get to the bottom of the mystery, he asked his neighbor, Rodney Holbrook, 70, to set up a hidden camera.

Much to Mckears’s relief, the footage showed a hardworking mouse picking up plastic clips, screws, nuts, and bolts in its mouth from around midnight to 2:30 a.m. The rodent carefully deposited them in the ice cream tub.

“I was worried, I’m 72 and you hear of things going wrong with 72-year-old gentlemen in the mind,” Mckears told BBC. “That’s why when we proved it wasn’t me, I was happy.”

He was amazed at the tiny critter’s ability to lift the items.

“I thought it was amazing that a little mouse could lift so much and get in there in the matter of a couple of hours,” he told ITV News. “He’s very busy, he’s at it, first one then the next, he doesn’t give up until it’s all in there.”

He calls the tiny rodent a“Brexit mouse.” The reason? “Because he’s been stockpiling for Brexit,” he said.

Meanwhile, Holbrook, an avid wildlife photographer, named the mouse “Metal Mickey.”

“I’ve been calling him Metal Mickey but some people have been saying he’s just mouse proud,” Holbrook said. “I was quite amazed to see it—it is an amazing mouse.”

The “Brexit mouse” is still busy cleaning up the mess to this day, but Mckears doesn’t mind at all as long as the house-proud critter doesn’t invite more friends back to his shed.

If you’re wondering about this small rodent’s strange conduct, veterinarian Laurie Hess has an explanation.

“They are definitely gatherers, whether it’s food or objects,” Hess told InsideEdition.com, alluding to the typical behavior among mice. “They have been known to gather and line up things, pick up things.”

Hess said even though rodents are reputed to be dirty animals, they are actually “very clean” and “very meticulous.” “They are just innately very organized and very neat,” she added.

In addition, “mice like to keep themselves clean and will groom themselves periodically throughout the day,” Pet Central states on its website.

The video of the diligent mouse arranging Mckears’s items has social media users enthused.

“Seriously, this is the kind of thing that only happens in fairytales. Pure joy,” one user wrote.

Some Twitter users expressed their interest in keeping this diligent mouse in their home.

“Is that mouse available next week for a general tidy up and some light hoovering,” one joked.

Another jested, “So cool he can come and do my bedroom.”

“OMG I LOVE THIS MOUSE!! This is a very special mouse and I want no harm to come to him ever,” wrote another.
