Fishing can be extremely thrilling, especially when you have a big fish on your line. A Danville, Kentucky, man was “jumping for joy” as he caught a massive 20-pound (approx. 9-kilogram) “goldfish” from a private pond. A 20-pound goldfish...Seriously, is this for real?
“It was crazy.”
The incredible catch happened in early February.
On Feb. 9, while Anderson and his girlfriend were on their way home, they passed by a private pond in Boyle County, where “there used to be some big koi fish and goldfish.”
Anderson, an avid fisherman who works part-time at a bait and tackle shop in Danville, then decided to try his luck fishing from the pond—using a Cashion rod and a piece of leftover biscuit as bait.
“Believe it or not, we ate at Lee’s earlier in the day, and I took a piece of a Lee’s biscuit and put it on a hook,” Anderson said.
He threw the line into the pond, and a fish took the bait.
Anderson put up quite a struggle before he pulled the massive fish out of the water.
“It was one of the hardest fighting fish I’ve ever fought. It never ever wanted to give up. I’m lucky I got it in. But I did and I was screaming and jumping up and down as I had never seen anything like it,” he said.
Much to his surprise, he reeled in something that looked like an overgrown goldfish!
The fish, estimated to be around 20 pounds, was the strangest catch Anderson had ever seen. He even wondered if it was considered the largest goldfish ever caught.
“Maybe it’s some kind of record,” he said.
Proud of the massive catch, Anderson snapped a photo of the goldfish before he set it free. He watched the fish swim away as he tossed it back into the pond.
“What am I going to do with it really?” he said. “Maybe somebody else will catch it. Maybe a kid will catch it and be as happy as I was. I was jumping for joy.”
Anderson wasn’t the only one excited over the catch. His sister Cassie was thrilled as well.
Jovially, she joked that the fish could be “that pet goldfish we flushed when I was 9!!!”
“I swear, I thought you were dead bubbles!!! lol lol,” she continued. “Caught in danville ky y'all!! Oh my gosh don’t flush your pets!”
Cassie’s post has received more than 1,600 likes and over 820 comments.
“There actually not goldfish my husband caught one also here in texas. Forgot what it’s called ill ask him when he wakes up. There not a coi fish either we thought so also but it’s not,” one user wrote.
Another commented: “Probably a Japanese Koi fish not a Goldfish.”
So, was that gigantic fish really an overgrown goldfish?
Even though that sea creature might not be a goldfish, it was still quite a feat, because Anderson snagged it with just a piece of “Lee’s Famous Recipe” biscuit!
