“It was magnificent in every way. It was uplifting. It’s portraying a message that all humanity needs to hear in a way that’s affirming of all things beautiful and true. And it’s expressed in such a beautiful artistic form, the combination of the music, the dance, the costumes, the artistry, the imagery. So And that’s what we need more of these days,” said Ed Morse, a professor at Creighton University.Shen Yun is based in New York and it is dedicated to reviving China’s 5,000 years of civilization—a China before communism.
“All of the vignettes that were shown here showed that there’s a cosmic struggle between good and evil. It’s been true throughout history. It’s still true today. And the messages of whether we’re going to embrace a path of empathy and caring, or whether we’re going to suppress other people, those are the choices that are for us in these times. And let’s face it, sometimes the bad guys are winning. Get on the good guy train,” expressed Mr. Morse.
“They did a great job. They’re so dedicated to their art, to their craft. Each one, you can see the earnestness and the commitment. And you can sense the requirement of years of training. There’s so much investment and human capital that is required to be a competent artist,” praised Mr. Morse.
Dancing isn’t just a job for Shen Yun’s artists. It’s a way for them to raise awareness of what is happening in present-day China and make a difference in the world.
“You could tell that they believe the message. It’s not just a show for them, but it is a true expression of human creativity that is behind a bigger idea that we need to behave virtuously. We need to love one another. We need to embrace the true, the good, and the beautiful,” said Mr. Morse.
“I think these values are universal. And if we practice these things, along with the sense of humor—you showed a lot of humor here. Someone once said that if people had a sense of humor, they would fulfill the beatitudes instinctively,” said Mr. Morse.
“The people that oppose the message, those people lack a sense of humor. They lack any sense of beauty. Their lenses on their glasses can only see failure, fault, downfall. They don’t see love. They don’t look at others with love. They don’t look at the world with love, their own country with love. We should love our own country as well,” said Mr. Morse.
