More than 100,000 books have been removed with the excuse of them being “illegal” and “inadequate” and they have even been burned. Reuters reported that the Ministry of Education called on schools to carry out an “inspection and cleaning program” of books on October 15, 2019. At least 30 provinces have “cleaned” their libraries and removed hundreds of thousands of offending books. Some were even burned.
