Most of us would love to have an infusion of elegance in our homes. But aside from bringing in crystal chandeliers and splurging on a new furniture set –are there any simple ways to add a touch of sophistication to the home?

The answer is yes! While there are quite literally dozens of ways to inject some elegance into the home, let’s look at three simple ways that you can easily add a touch of elegance to your living spaces.

Simplify

Clutter is the opposite of elegance. Get rid of catalog stacks, mail, trinkets, and knickknacks –and anything else that doesn’t serve a purpose, or add to the atmosphere. Having too much out, and on display will cause the room to look overfilled.

Choose Color Carefully

Another way to add a touch of elegance to a home is by choosing your colors carefully. Whether you’re planning to paint the walls, or simply looking to accessorize, choose colors that are decidedly elegant. You can either go with a bold and vibrant elegance, or go with a for soft, and subtle color scheme. White, black, and chocolate brown are innately elegant colors –and make great accent, or main colors in a room. Gold and silver, when used sparingly, can also add an element of classic elegance to a room.

Accessorize

Accessorizing doesn’t mean filling up every inch of space, it means selecting a few choice pieces that are especially stylish. Classic elegant details include decorative mirrors, gold or silver trimmed frames, candlesticks, sculptures, and glass or ornate wooden side tables. Remember, when in doubt –simplify. It’s often better to have one or two strong decorative features –rather than too many conflicting details. Stick with pieces that you know and love, and choose details that compliment them both in style and color.
