Lakefront homes are an ideal summertime retreat.
Lakefront inspiration conjures up thoughts of waking up to a breeze coming in through the windows, while experiencing an undistorted view of a perfectly calm lake.
While lakefront homes for most are a dream, rather than an everyday reality, there’s no need to forgo the lakefront experience. If you’re looking for a rustic, calm, and relaxing design style to incorporate into your space, here’s how you can draw inspiration from a lakeside cabin and create a relaxing atmosphere in your home.
Décor: Casual and Practical
Lakeside décor is laidback and casual. It’s also practical and authentic. When drawing inspiration from the lakeside, look for things that you‘d find when vacationing at a lake house, or things that are reminiscent of a day at the lake. You could also repurpose items that you’d find at a lakefront location. For example, oars can be turned into racks, or a vintage bicycle basket can be used to hold books.
Style: Calm and Relaxing
Look for pieces that reflect that sense of beauty and serenity found at the lake, and try to recreate a calm and relaxing atmosphere in your home. A favorite piece of art depicting a beautiful sunset on a lake, for example, or a beautiful rug that ties the entire room together while adding a warm, cozy feel to the space.
Furniture: Roughhewn and Rustic
Wicker chairs, rustic tables, vintage signs, and antique shelving. Look for furniture that’s relaxed, solid, and natural. Soften things up with some throw pillows, blankets, or woven rugs to complete the look, and bring back nostalgic memories of days gone by.
