HONG KONG—The Mirs Bay passage race, Race 7 of the Hebe Haven Typhoon Series took place on Saturday July 30, in a light southerly wind.
Starting at 11am, the leading IRC-A boats had a good downwind run arriving at the Mirs Bay destination in around 2 ½ hours. The first boat home was “FreeFire” followed by “Zannekin” and “Ambush” at 7 minute intervals. “Zannekin” took 1st place on corrected time, “Ambush” was placed 2nd, “FreeFire” 3rd and “XF” was 4th. “Zannekin” with 14 points net heads the series standings with “FreeFire” 2nd on 19 points and “Straight Up” after finishing in 6th place in this race is 3rd on 22 points. With no more big scores to discard by the leaders, the Final 2 days of racing looks like a straight fight.
IRC-B boats took a little over 3 hours to complete the course with “Lighthorse” taking line honours, but “Sell Side Dream” winning on corrected time “Seawolf” came 2nd and “Lighthorse” took 3rd, followed by “Kiasu” and “Mojito”. In series terms “Seawolf” leads with 9 points, “Sell Side Dream” is on 11 points and “Lighthorse” 3rd on 17 points.
In IRC-C “Red Kite II” took line honours and 1st place, followed by “Dexter II”, “Gambit” and “Talkinghead”. “Red Kite II” leads the series on 7 points, “Dexter II” is 2nd on 10 points and “Whiskey Jack” after missing this race, just holds onto 3rd place ahead of “Gambit”, with 22 and 23 points respectively.
“Merlin” on 6 points continues to lead the Sportsboats’ series ahead of “Ricochet” (14 points) and “Catch 22” (22 points) - finishing in this order in the Mirs Bay Race.
“Bumphead” won the J80 Class, followed by Lila, “Jive” and “Jazz”, but “Jive” is still ahead in the series on 10 points, “Bumphead” is lying 2nd on 14 points and “Jazz” is in 3rd place on 18 points.
In HKPN-A, “Bits & Pieces” had a good race to Mirs Bay finishing in under 3 hours to take line honours and 1st place. “Scintilla” came 2nd and “Temujin” was 3rd. “Bits” consolidates the lead position on 13 points with “Temujin” 2nd on 23 points and “Pepper & Salt” 3rd with 27 points.
In HKPN-B, “GA” took 1st place, “Lazy Piggy” was 2nd and “Scrumpy” came 3rd. “GA” retains the series lead with 11 points, “Lazy Piggy”, on 15 points, moves into 2nd place ahead of “Geko” who drops to 3rd with 17 points after finishing 5th in this race.
With the wind weakening in the late afternoon, 4 boats were unable to complete the course within the time limit.
