INDIANAPOLIS—Wherever Shen Yun performs, public officials at the federal, state, and local levels honor the world-renowned company with proclamations and letters of welcome. Indiana officials were no exception, expressing their gratitude and encouragement with no less than 15 such documents.
U.S. Sen. Dan Coats welcomed New York-based Shen Yun: “It is an honor to welcome Shen Yun Performing Arts to Indianapolis. It is most impressive that last year’s Shen Yun tour captivated over one million guests. It is a privilege to have them perform at Clowes Hall.”
Rep. André Carson, member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Indiana’s 7th District, also welcomed the return of Shen Yun: “On behalf of the 7th Congressional District, I welcome the members of Shen Yun Performing Arts to Indianapolis.” He encouraged fellow Hoosiers to come and see Shen Yun, calling Shen Yun’s presentation of 5,000 years of classical Chinese culture incredible.
Classical Chinese dance is one way in which 5,000 years of Chinese culture has been passed down and retained. New York-based Shen Yun travels the globe on a mission to revive traditional Chinese culture.
In her warm letter of welcome and appreciation, Rep. Susan W. Brooks, member of the House of Representatives for Indiana’s 5th District, called it “both an honor and a pleasure to welcome” Shen Yun to Indianapolis. She called the show “visually stunning and vocally compelling” and “a great way to learn more about Chinese culture.”
Gregory A. Ballard, mayor of the City of Indianapolis, welcomed Shen Yun back, and said, “Greetings! On behalf of the City of Indianapolis, I welcome the Shen Yun artists! These performances will increase our knowledge of Chinese culture.”
James Brainard, mayor of Carmel, issued a proclamation to thank the world-renowned company for returning to Indiana: “We are fortunate to have the opportunity for our citizens to experience ancient and contemporary Chinese culture and performing arts.”
To further honor Shen Yun, Mayor Brainard proclaimed Feb. 5–6, 2013, Shen Yun Performing Arts Days.
Andy Cook, Mayor of Westfield, welcomed the company’s return and also issued a proclamation to honor Shen Yun, declaring Feb. 5–6, 2013, as Shen Yun Performing Arts Days in Westfield.
John Ditslear, mayor of Noblesville, thanked the artists for returning and in his letter of welcome, wrote: “On behalf of the City of Noblesville, I would like to offer greetings and welcome to all members of Shen Yun Performing Arts. Shen Yun’s performances allow Hoosiers to more fully understand and respect the history and culture of China.
“The talent and dedication that the Shen Yun artists exhibit during each performance is inspiring and impressive. Each performance is an extraordinary cultural and artistic event that inspires those who see it. It is an honor for us to host you again, and thank you for sharing your talents with us.”
In her letter of welcome, state Sen. Jean Leasing said, “I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the members of Shen Yun Performing Arts for traveling to the great state of Indiana to share your talents with us.”
To the audience, she wrote: “I hope you cherish these moments and embrace the beauty of classical Chinese culture on display tonight. I am honored to be able to share in this wonderful evening.”
‘A Worldwide Reputation’
Greg Goodnight, mayor of the City of Kokomo, expressed his gratitude and said, “We are grateful that you have chosen to share your outstanding talent with the residents of Indiana.”
Indiana state Sen. Ron Grooms, who had attended Shen Yun previously, wished to share his excitement at Shen Yun’s return and wrote, “Greetings and welcome!” “I am very excited to have the opportunity to join the audience again this year. I was so impressed by their skills and talents ... and I look forward to embracing the ancient Chinese music and culture and to an eventful and entertaining evening.”
David C. Long, president pro tempore of the Indiana state Senate, welcomed the company’s return, noting how it is held in high regard: “It is my honor to welcome the Shen Yun Performing Arts company to the State of Indiana. This show has established a worldwide reputation as a beautiful and stunning performance celebrating ancient Chinese culture.”
Indiana state Rep. Peggy Mayfield welcomed the show’s return and called Shen Yun an “extraordinary show.”
Indiana state Rep. Jud McMillin said it was his great pleasure to welcome Shen Yun’s return and that he is looking forward to attending.
Tony Roswarski, mayor of Lafayette, thanked the artists for returning and “for bringing your culture, dance and exceptional performances to Indianapolis, Ind.”
In her heartfelt greetings, Mayor Susan Murray, of Greencastle, wrote: “It’s with great joy that we anticipate the return of Shen Yun Performing Arts. Their performances offer to the people of Indiana a breathtaking look into classical Chinese dance. There is no other forum that so beautifully brings together some 5,000 years of Chinese history through dance and music.
“From the people of Greencastle, I send our warm welcome to Indiana, to the performers, musicians and staff of Shen Yun Performing Arts. Thank you for including Indianapolis in your journey.”
