Sometimes, when you receive a missed call from an unknown number, it gets difficult to decide whether it’s worth calling back as there is always a possibility that you might end up calling back a telemarketer or someone you don’t want to talk to.

A new app dubbed Truedialer, from the same guys who developed the famous Truecaller app, aims to solve just that. In this article, we will discuss the basics of the Truedialer app along with the features it provides.

How Truedialer solves the problem

Coming from the same family, Truedialer taps into the humongous database of more than a billion phone numbers that Truecaller has managed to amass over the years and uses it to fill in the missing information like contact names as well as their locations for the incoming, outgoing, and missed call numbers that do not have an associated contact on your device.

Additionally, since Truedialer is a full-fledged dialer app, it also comes in handy while dialing numbers. As you type in numbers, the app searches both your contact list as well as Truecaller’s database to come up with auto-complete options, giving you instant access to relevant information about people you are about to call.

The app also lets you save the information quickly into your phonebook for later use.

Other features

Aside from what we’ve already discussed, Truedialer also offers various other features:

  • The dialer app offers both numeric as well as QWERTY keyboard options – just swipe left and right on the keyboard to switch between the two. The numeric keyboard also supports T9 search (supports predictive text).
  • Above the keyboard area the app displays all the recent incoming, outgoing, and missed calls, filling in the missing information wherever required using Truecaller’s database.
  • Just swipe left on a contact to send them a text message, and swipe right to view contact details – if the contact is not in your list, you can use this shortcut to easily save it your phonebook, but if it is already there, the shortcut lets you edit their details.
  • Just like Truecaller, the Truedialer app also lets you know if a number has been marked as spam (before the call is placed). It also lets you easily wipe away mistyped phone numbers.

Permissions

Truedialer requires the following permissions:

  • Location – to filter out irrelevant search results depending on country location
  • Contacts – to enable users to manage their contacts within the app
  • Phone – to be able to directly call a phone number

Also, an important point worth mentioning here is that just like Truecaller, the Truedialer app also uploads your contacts list to its servers.

Limitations

Aside from the fact that Truecaller’s data can be inaccurate or outdated at times, Truedialer has its own set of limitations. For example, it cannot become your default dialer at the moment. In addition, users have also reported that the app isn’t compatible with dual-SIM phones – it only works with the primary SIM.

What do we think

Truedialer is for those who get a lot of missed calls from unknown numbers every day, as it can prove to be a real time-saver for them. It’s a welcome change from most of the phone’s native dialer apps, which Truedialer’s creators call ‘ordinary.’ The app is completely free and is currently available for the Windows and Android platforms.
