Franklin Park Zoo in Boston is the home of a newborn Nigerian dwarf goat named Chewbacca.

The baby goat was born between 6:30 and 8:00 a.m. on Feb. 16. Its mother, Leia, gave birth inside the barn at Franklin Park Zoo’s Franklin Farm in Boston.

“Shortly after birth, the baby, a female, was standing and within hours she was observed nursing,” the zoo’s news release states. “This is Leia’s second kid with Lucky, a Nigerian dwarf goat that also resides in Franklin Farm.”

The kid underwent a medical exam and “appears bright, alert and active,” weighing four pounds.

“We are thrilled to share the news of this birth and we hope people will stop by during this school vacation week to see this adorable new addition,” said John Linehan, Zoo New England President and CEO.

Nigerian dwarf goats, of West African descent, come in a variety of color patterns, including black, brown, and gold-white, the news release states, and adds they are known for “their easy-going temperaments.” They have been domesticated as dairy goats and live all over the world, being able to adapt to both warm and cold climates.
