When selling a home, first impressions matter. Most buyers make up their minds about a place shortly after seeing it, so ensuring that your home looks its absolute best is a great way to increase buyer interest and leave an excellent impression with potential buyers.

Many sellers today are opting for home staging to ensure their home looks its absolute best, and to make those first impressions count. If you’re looking for some tips to get your home ready to sell, here are a few rules for home staging that will get you off to a great start.

Depersonalize

One of the first steps in home staging is depersonalizing the space. The potential buyers want to be able to see your home, and envision themselves living there. Personal items will distract, or even turn some potential buyers away.

Pay Attention to Color

A new coat of paint can go a long way towards helping a space to look its best. It’s usually best to opt for neutral colors that will appeal to a wide variety of tastes. Neutral and light shades will also help the rooms to feel open and inviting.

Cater to the Masses

Artwork can make a tremendous difference in a room. As with color though, artwork and décor details should be chosen with the potential buyers in mind. Opt for pieces that will appeal to most people. You want to focus on universal appeal, rather than niche tastes.

Lighten Up

Paying attention to light and finding ways to make the rooms more open and inviting is an important part of home staging. Take advantage of natural light, and incorporate mirrors to help reflect the light and help the room to appear more spacious.

Open It Up

If you have a small room, or a space that could benefit by being opened up, consider removing some of the furniture in the room, or invest in some new, smaller pieces to help make the rooms as open as possible. Finally, don’t hesitate to call for help. A professional stager can give you advice or redecorate your home for you, giving you a fresh perspective, and helping your home set to sell faster.
