A fascinating picture of a squirrel smelling a flower in Austria is rapidly spreading across the world wide web.
Dutch photographer Dick van Duijn, 34, was visiting the country’s capital of Vienna to photograph gophers when he snapped the perfect photo of the moment a small ground squirrel held what appears to be a yellow daisy up close to its face, with eyes closed, sniffing the flower.
Van Duijn took two hours and roughly 200 photos before he was satisfied with his creative work.
“This curious ground squirrel started smelling and tasting the flower,” he told Fox. “I was really happy after capturing a photo like this. I went to Austria especially to photograph the ground squirrels ... it was great to witness this, and very satisfying.”
The image has been republished worldwide, giving big publicity to van Duijn’s creative camera work.
He admits he has wanted to photograph the amusing animal for quite some time and intends to take more in future.
“This funny, curious and acrobatic ‘gophers’ were already on my photography list,” he said on Facebook. “We have a lot of fantastic images with beautiful flowers can make where I’m very happy with ... there will undoubtedly follow more.”
Van Duijn has also shared similar photos of squirrels smelling a poppy flower and also a very large dandelion.
