Although the summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe findings has exonerated President Donald Trump and his associates from all allegations of colluding with Russia, multiple liberal celebrities still have not come to terms with the conclusion.
Many have gone on social media to weigh in on the findings, saying that they were not convinced of the result or to express outrage over the outcome.
Among them were singer and songwriter Bette Midler, 73, who criticized President Trump for forcing the United States “to live through war for the last two years,” in a Twitter post on March 24.
She also claimed Trump had caused “depression, despair, confusion, and death.”
“We’re not just sick at heart but literally sick from him; from uncontrollable rage at the thought that he will get away with his crimes,” Midler wrote.
It also concluded that the special counsel didn’t provide enough evidence to substantiate that the president obstructed justice.
Like Midler, comedian and actor Billy Eichner made a series of posts to express his disbelief.
“Did not imagine a world where they were able to indict Aunt Becky before Donald Trump,” he posted to Twitter, referring to Lori Loughlin who played the character Aunt Becky on the sitcom Full House. Loughlin was indicted this month, accused of paying $500,000 in bribes to have her two daughters be placed in the USC crew team despite having no prior experience.
Eichner also criticized the president in his subsequent posts.
“Well, if there was nothing in the report why won’t they just release it? If the report fully exonerated him or his family, he’d have it all out in seconds. Wouldn’t he?” she wrote.
Meanwhile, actor John Leguizamo continues to maintain that the president had colluded with Russia despite Mueller’s primary findings.
Instead of lambasting the president, actor Don Cheadle decided to take a shot at White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, who tweeted, “The findings of the Department of Justice are a total and complete exoneration of the President of the United States.”
Barr’s summary noted that during the investigation the special counsel interviewed approximately 500 witnesses, executed almost 500 search warrants, issued more 2,800 subpoenas, obtained more than 230 orders for communications records, and issued nearly 50 pen orders. Mueller also employed a staff of 19 lawyers and 40 FBI agents, analysts, forensic accountants, and professional staff.
Before boarding Air Force One en route from Florida to Washington, the president said Barr’s summary was a “complete and total exoneration.”
“It’s a shame that our country had to go through this. To be honest it’s a shame that your president had to go through this,” Trump told reporters on March 24.
“This was an illegal takedown that failed and hopefully somebody is going to be looking at their other side.”
