NEW YORK—Two individuals were stabbed multiple times inside the Museum of Modern Art in New York on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Police said the two individuals were staff at the museum reception desk and are now in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital.

Law enforcement officials are investigating the incident. The suspect is still at large.

Police say they’re looking for a white male wearing a black jacket, a colorful patterned shirt, and a surgical mask. Police added that the suspect is known to the police and the museum.

The suspect had been denied entry when the stabbing happened. He had yesterday received a letter revoking his museum membership over two prior incidents in recent days involving disorderly conduct while at the museum, police said.

Social media posts on Twitter showed that the midtown Manhattan museum evacuated patrons Saturday afternoon.
