Anthony C. Williams, a Democrat from Huntington Beach, was appointed to the California Fish and Game Commission—which works with the California Department of Fish and Game to protect wildlife and the ecosystem in the state—according to an Oct. 5 announcement from Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office.
Williams, 54, was the director of public policy for Amazon for two years before the appointment. Prior to that, he served as the first legislative affairs secretary for Newsom from 2019 to 2020.
This is not the first time he will serve as a commissioner of the state Fish and Game Commission thanks to then Gov. Edmund G. “Jerry” Brown’s appointment in 2014.
Since 1994, Williams has worked for the Boeing Company, served state Senators John Burton and Darrell Steinburg, and as a senior executive for the State Bar of California.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of California–Davis, a Master of public policy from Harvard University, and a Juris Doctor from the McGeorge School of Law.
His experience in law has given him the chance to represent clients in regulatory, civil, and criminal matters in both federal and state courts and agencies.
Williams is also a member of the California High-Speed Rail Authority—responsible for designing, building, and operating the first high-speed rail system in the United States.
Williams is a husband and father of three school-aged children.
