LAKE FOREST—A 25-year-old man was arrested Feb. 23 on suspicion of stabbing a man and woman in their Lake Forest home.

The victims—a 69-year-old woman and 31-year-old man who appear to be a mother and son—were rushed to an area hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, said Orange County sheriff’s Sgt. Dennis Breckner.

Deputies who were called at 7:30 a.m. to Rue Fontaine and Rue Monet in the Foothill Ranch area set up a perimeter to catch the attacker, but the suspect initially eluded apprehension, Breckner said. A deputy on a motorcycle in Rancho Santa Margarita later spotted the suspect, Jose Zuniga Castro of Lake Forest, and took him into custody, the sergeant said.

Deputies were working to determine the relationship between the three, but Castro knew the victims, Breckner said.

“We think the suspect was invited in” to the victims’ home, where the stabbing occurred, he said.
