The teenager’s family have moved out of their home following intense media interest and threats of reprisal attacks on Islamic religious centres.

In light of a series of stabbing incidents across Sydney in the past week, NSW Premier Chris Minns said he would consider tougher knife laws.

‘In terms of the events in the Middle East, of course they do resonate here in Australia,’ said Mike Burgess, head of Australia’s spy agency.

Justice Jennifer Davies described the event as ‘unusual and very tragic.’

Police said they believe the 21-year-old victim was stabbed with a kitchen knife.

The victim lived in Coorparoo but slept in the particular city centre doorway as he believed people were out to kill him at night.
