Heavy rains have assailed South Korea, prompting mass flooding in Seoul and its surrounding areas on Tuesday night and Wednesday. At least 36 people have been killed, according to the Yonhap news agency.

The recent downpours are considered the worst in nearly a century, causing landslides, power outages, as well as mass floods.

Among those killed by rain-triggered landslides include 11 students and staff at Inha University in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, reported the Korea Times.
