BALTIMORE—Two dancers, Bat Udval and Evgenia Singur, called ‘Top ballet stars’ by Maryland Community Newspapers Online Gazette.Net were very impressed with Shen Yun performance at the Baltimore’s Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric on Jan. 18.

Mr. Udval was amazed at what he had seen during the first half of the performance: “Oh, this is incredible! What can you say?”

Both Bat Udval and his wife Evgenia Singur, have an impressive list of accomplishments in the world of classical ballet.

Mr. Udval was a principal dancer with the Bolshoi Russian State Ballet in Moscow, where he danced in many major classical roles and received gold and silver medals for his performance. Mr. Udval was inducted into the Hall of Fame as one of the world’s greatest male dancers.

After performing as a principal with the San Jose Ballet in Cleveland, Ohio from 1998-2000, Mr. Udval performed as a guest principal dancer throughout the United State and internationally until 2009. He and his wife are guest faculty members at the Baltimore Ballet.

Mr. Uvdal felt that in Shen Yun performance, “all dances were beautiful in their own way.” He praised Shen Yun dancers as “incredible dancers.”

His wife, Ms. Singur, who was a principal dancer at the Russian State Ballet for more than 20 years, could not agree more, saying that she was impressed by “the technique shown by the dancers. Everything was of great quality. ”

Ms. Singur performed leading roles in the most famous ballets such as Giselle, Swan Lake, Spartacus, Coppelia, Les Sylphides, among many others. She won the 2004 International Dance Festival in Korea and the 2002 Europe Dance Magazine Award. The charming ballerina toured 25 countries with the Russian State Ballet. She has performed for the Queen of England, the King of Dubai, the President of Indonesia and stars like Michael Jackson, and Pierre Cardin. She has choreographed a full length Nutcracker, Bolero and over 30 international character dances.

Ms. Singur could appreciate the high quality of Shen Yun’s choreography. “The show was very creative and had a modern tinge to it,” she said.

The ballerina was most impressed by the Mongolian dance: ”I was so excited seeing this scene.”

Ms. Singur recently appeared in the lead female role in Baltimore Ballet’s productions of Scheherazade at Kraushaar Auditorium and Les Sylphides at the BMA, as well as a lead dancer at Artscape at the Lyric Opera House in July 2009.

“Classical Chinese dancers always have amazing technique,” noted Mr. Udval. “Sometimes you think it’s an un-human technique because it’s so good.”

Describing the impression left by Shen Yun, the artist seemed almost overcome. He said. “Yes, that’s beautiful. I mean there is nothing: some dances too, you have no words. It’s just amazing.”

“I like it so much,” added his wife.
