HOUSTON—Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company filled the theater with energy at Jones Hall Thursday evening, Dec. 22, according to qigong teacher Mr. Richard Socha.
“[It’s] more fabulous than you could imagine,” he said. “Oh, I can’t even imagine it to be this fantastic!”
Mr. Socha attended the performance with Ms. Catherine Wise, who works in property management, and was blown away by the digital backdrop. “It’s just fabulous with the moving part, the way it blends,” he pointed out the celestial battle depicted in the opener of the show especially.
“The qi [pronounced chee, in Chinese philosophy it is known as the energy or life force of the universe] is strong, 100 percent. It’s as powerful as you can get. I feel it … the qi coming off is incredible,” he said of the performance, and the atmosphere.
“Even just the opera singer, it just resonates [with] your whole being. Just like a high teaching in the temples. About the highest that you can get,” Mr. Socha said, referring to the bel canto style solo vocalists singing with Chinese lyrics.
“It’s priceless,” he said of the overall performance. “It’s filling the soul, it’s just calming of the soul.”
Ms. Wise agreed, and felt the performance was touching.
“So beautiful and peaceful, and spiritual,” Ms. Wise said. “Loved it, loved it.”
Ms. Wise added that she loved the orchestra and its intensity. The Shen Yun Orchestra mixes a unique blend of classical Chinese instruments with a classical Western orchestra, accompanying each of the dances.
