SAN DIEGO—A man was behind bars Jan. 17 in connection with the weekend stabbing death of a 22-year-old female cousin in the Sabre Springs community.

At 10 a.m. Sunday, 22-year-old Uriel Cedillo was located at 12500 Oak Knoll Road and arrested on suspicion of murder, said Lt. Andra Brown of the San Diego Police Department.

The victim, identified as Poway resident Fatima Marin Cedillo, the suspect’s cousin, was fatally stabbed around 2:30 a.m. Sunday at a park in the 11500 block of Meadow Grass Lane, according to Brown.

Officers responding to calls about the attack found the woman suffering from at least one apparent stab wound to the upper body, Brown said. Paramedics took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m.

“Detectives have learned the female arrived at the park with friends and walked over to a group already there,” Brown said. “After a brief encounter, she walked away from them and told her friends she had been stabbed.”

The suspect drove away from the area in a dark vehicle. According to the county Sheriff’s Department website, Cedillo was booked into the Central Jail and was being held without bail.

San Diego police urged anyone with information to call them at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
