Online sensation Boo the Pomeranian, known and loved as the “World’s Cutest Dog,” has died of a broken heart aged 12. The news has devastated fans around the world.

The perfect pup, who had 17 million social media followers, fell ill and passed away one year after his best friend Buddy, owing to heart problems.

In a saving grace, the beloved dog passed away in his sleep. Boo’s family opened up on Facebook: “Our family is heartbroken, but we find comfort knowing that he is no longer in any pain or discomfort.”

It is understood that Boo started experiencing heart problems shortly after Buddy, his lifelong playmate, died in 2017. The news was confirmed on the pooch’s social media account, run by his “human family.”

The family explained: “Boo showed signs of heart issues. We think his heart literally broke when Buddy left us.” They also shared the thought that gives them comfort, by saying: “I’m sure it was a most joyous moment for them when they saw each other in heaven.”

Boo was born in San Francisco in 2006 and warmed to his eventual best friend immediately; from the very beginning, he would refuse to pose for pictures without Buddy. Apparently, the pair, especially Boo, loved chicken, cheese, flowers, grass and dirt, proving that even famous pups keep a taste for the simple things in life.

Boo, like all dogs, also loved squeaky toys. Although unlike other dogs, he “loved wearing shirts.” At least according to social media. Indisputably (there’s photo evidence), Boo’s favorite color was pink.

Boo even released his own book during his lifetime (with, presumably, a little help from human friends), titled “Boo: The Life of the World’s Cutest Dog.” By the end of his life, the little dog had gained 540,000 Instagram followers and 4,000 fans on Twitter.

“Boo met some super cool people,” remember the family. And it’s true; the gorgeous pup amassed a huge celebrity following in his lifetime, citing the likes of actor Martin Sheen, news anchor Anderson Cooper, singer Liam Payne, and fashion designer Tory Birch amongst his biggest fans.

It’s undeniable that Boo brought his family a huge amount of joy but also brought joy to the lives of his followers around the world.

There’s nothing quite so cheerful as a photo of a joyful, playful, and ultimately perfect-looking dog: “I’ve received so many notes over the years from people sharing stories of how Boo brightened their days and helped bring a little light to their lives during difficult times,” Boo’s family shared.

Seemingly one of the happiest dogs to grace the internet, Boo’s life was not without purpose. He brought joy to, quite literally, millions. Followers flocked to social media to share their condolences.

“He was so easy going that we never had to bother with training,” the family recall. Boo was even able to floor the “manliest of men,” making everybody who met him, regardless of machismo, squeal with delight.

We can see why. We'll miss you, Boo.
Boo’s owners thank the Adobe Animal Hospital and Sage Veterinary Centers for their love and care of both dogs before they passed.
