“Loca,” a 5-month-old owned puppy, has defied all expectations by surviving a potentially fatal injury to the head. She had been shot with a bow and arrow. Loca’s owners found her on the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 22, on their porch and barely alive.
She was rushed to expert veterinarians at Paws & Claws Animal Clinic.
Staff immediately rallied around to help stabilize the fragile pup. X-rays showed the extent of the extraordinary damage caused by the arrow, and the equally extraordinary near miss!
Paws & Claws Clinic staff exclaimed at the marvel of the arrow missing Loca’s brain, spine, and throat. Frankly, it is a miracle that she survived at all.

But surviving the arrow shot was only half of Loca’s battle. Whilst Loca was stable and in the hands of the experts, the arrow still had to be removed.
With her age and health on her side, not to mention the loving and supportive atmosphere created by Loca’s family and the clinic staff, Loca managed beautifully.

“She is the luckiest unlucky girl in the world,” wrote one member of the clinic staff.
Loca had defied expectations and amazed everybody with her resilience. The medical specialists, in particular, were both shocked and delighted that they could provide Loca and her family with a resoundingly successful surgery.

Now at home, smothered with healing love and being, at least for now, protected from the dangers of the outside world, Loca is continuing to recover.
With Loca’s recovery in process, the focus is shifting to the heinous act of violence that sent her to the clinic in the first place. Loca’s family and the Paws & Claws Animal Clinic are both hellbent on finding the person who shot the young pup. The suspicion has been, through Loca’s ordeal, that the shooting was intentional.
The Calhoun police department, who were informed of Loca’s ordeal, are searching for the person who shot the puppy with a bow and arrow. Anybody with information about the culprit should reach out, in the name of justice for Loca, and in the name of providing a voice for victimized animals everywhere.
Loca truly is the luckiest unlucky puppy in the world, but she is a fighter, and we wish her the speediest, fullest recovery possible.
