A driver in the Kansas area had a devastating shock in the early hours of the morning after spotting a puppy dumped by the side of the road. The pup, in horrendous condition, was found lying by the roadside in Wichita, Kansas, fighting for her life.

The driver initially feared that the puppy had been hit by a vehicle before venturing closer. She realized, to her utmost horror, that the little dog’s eyes and mouth had been sealed shut with superglue.

The Jack Russell terrier mix, later named “Glory” because of her unwavering spirit, was rushed to the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita. Additional bruises were found on her abdomen, likely from being hit. Doctors worked tirelessly to remove the glue and begin to fix the damage inflicted by the little dog’s abuser.

Glory couldn’t see, eat, or drink. According to KWCH, as a result of her ordeal, the pup also “had no voice.” She was taken into the care of Wichita animal rescue organization Beauties and Beasts, Inc., whose staff were shocked at the puppy’s condition, calling it “horrifying.”

However, against the odds, Glory turned out to be a little fighter.

“She’s got some skin to grow back and some regular healing as well,” Beauties and Beasts volunteer Kasey Breidenthal told 3KSN News. “But she’s doing really well. She’s playful, and doing great.”

Estimated to be around 9 months old, the delightful puppy won hearts both at the shelter and around the globe thanks to social media. Still, Glory’s astounding recovery couldn’t detract from the cold reality of her abuser’s heinous actions.

“Do you know who did this?” Beauties and Beasts posted on Facebook. “This sweet young girl was found by a good Samaritan laying on the side of the road with her eyes and mouth superglued and bruising to her abdomen.”

“This was an intentional act,” the rescue staff added, “and someone who is capable of harming an innocent little dog is extremely dangerous. They will continue this pattern of abuse on helpless victims.”

Glory, of course, could not speak for herself but instead wore the visible scars of her trauma on her tiny body. “You are her only hope,” the shelter posted, pleading with their followers to share information on the perpetrator if they had any. “See something, say something; silence is deadly,” they wrote.

After weeks of healing, Glory finally had the energy to let her sparkling personality shine through. A loving fosterer welcomed her into a safe, comfortable home, and Glory thrived.

“She is just a bundle of love and energy,” said Glory’s fosterer Mark Claeys, speaking to 3KSN News. “She wants to play with our dogs so bad, but she scares them; she’s so energetic!”
But the battle wasn’t over just yet. Beauties and Beasts were so troubled by Glory’s ordeal that they gathered donations for a $2,000 reward in return for information on Glory’s abuser. Animal rights group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) caught wind of this and generously upped the reward to $5,000; a small price, perhaps, for bringing justice to this sweet puppy who endured too much.

Glory could easily have been killed by a car or perished by the side of the road, terrified and very much alone. As it stands, through the kindness of strangers and the love and care of an entire community, the little pup now has a bright future ahead of her.

In the summer of 2018, Glory was adopted by the Waggy family, who were overjoyed to welcome the bouncy little lady into their home. “[They] share that they absolutely love her,” Glory’s rescuers posted on Facebook, “and she is settling in well.”

“A tragic beginning, but a happy ending I hope,” Claeys added, with a smile.
