Karma is best served in a glass tumbler with crushed ice and a twist of lemon, it seems. At least, that’s according to one quick-thinking bartender who had a creative approach to rescuing a customer from a potentially awful situation.
In an ideal world, predatory behavior would be stamped out before it could do any damage. Tragically, many nefarious acts go unseen, but every time a person stands up for justice, it gives justice a slightly louder voice than before. Setting the bar for bold gestures pretty high, this anonymous bartender shared one way to nip evil in the bud.

How did they do it? Well, bartenders benefit from a bird’s eye view of the bar; it’s the perfect place from which to people watch. Of course sometimes this means that they see things others don’t. One night, this bartender observed a predatory man slipping drugs into a girl’s drink while she wasn’t looking and decided to do something about it.

“Watched that guy drug himself.”
The bartender looked on as the man sat and drank his very own poison; can anybody say “karma”? We have no idea whether this anonymous bartender was male or female, old or young, a previous victim of sexual assault, or completely unaffected. All we do know is that they might just have prevented a tragedy that night.

Of course, let’s not pretend that there isn’t a maelstrom of ethical dilemmas surrounding this quick-thinking power move. Why not call the police? Why not simply switch out the girl’s drugged drink? Perhaps, on this night, reason took a back seat as revenge took the wheel. Or, perhaps there’s more to the story than we know.

“I’m sure if it was my daughter, my granddaughter, niece, or friend I would be very grateful for what you did,” wrote one supporter. “We don’t know the whole story,” was another’s sensible perspective. “The bartender probably did tell the woman what happened and call the police. He seems to be a responsible person and not doing so would be irresponsible,” they wrote, adding on a high: “Kudos to the bartender!”

It’s a story of hope for vulnerable women (and men), but also a warning to anybody with predatory intentions. We all need to look out for ourselves, but there are also some really, really great people in the world who are not about to stand by and watch terrible things happen.
We salute them!
