Jennifer Capriati charged: Former Olympic gold medalist Jennifer Capriati was charged for allegedly assaulting her ex-boyfriend in the gym.
Former tennis player Jennifer Capriati was charged for allegedly assaulting her ex-boyfriend on Valentine’s Day while he was at the gym, it was reported Thursday.
Capriati, 36, was given a summons to appear in court in mid-April for stalking and battery charges. She allegedly punched Ivan Brannan as he was working out in North Palm Beach, reported The Associated Press.
Police said that when she approached him and yelled at him, he walked away and entered the men’s locker room at the Oxygen Health & Fitness Gym on U.S. 1. However, Capriati got in the way and hit him in the chest, reported the Palm Beach Post.
A witness told the paper that Capriati pointed her finger at his chest before punching him four times.
Court documents also said that she “willfully, maliciously, and repeatedly” followed, harassed, and cyberstalked Brannan.
But a spokesperson for Capriati told the Post that the charges against her are an “over-exaggeration.”
Capriati also tweeted: “I pushed a man that was verbally assaulting me away from me. This man has been tormenting and abusing me for so long. The truth will prevail,” according to the New York Post.
If she does not appear in court by April 17, a warrant will be issued for her arrest.
Capriati won a gold medal as a teenager during the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and was named to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2012.
