Animals have feelings just as humans so. When an adorable horse smelt the casket of his owner, he realized he had lost his loved one. Everyone around could feel the amazing pet’s sadness as he made the march with his owner for one last time.
Just as you would have cats and dogs as pets, Wagner Figueiredo de Lima, a semi-professional cowboy who worked in rodeos for nearly a decade, had Sereno as his trusted steed for many years. The duo were inseparable. They spent most of their time together.
On New Year’s Day in 2017, 34-year-old Wagner unfortunately was involved in a motorcycle accident near his home in Paraiba, Brazil, and died. His family members were acutely pained by their loss, including his beloved horse, Sereno.
Wagner’s brother, Wando, was aware of the deep bond between the horse and his dead brother.
So, Wando ascertained Sereno should be brought in to attend Wagner’s funeral to bid him goodbye.
On Jan. 3, 2017, before Wagner was laid to rest for eternity, family members and friends showed up for a funeral procession to honor him. Sereno was there as well, and nobody expected what happened next.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Sereno had absolutely no idea his owner was forever gone. As Sereno marched close to the casket, along with the rest of the family, to the burial grounds in the city of Cajazeiras, Brazil, he suddenly broke down and neighed.
Apparently, he picked up Wagner’s scent from the casket, and he realized who was lying inside.
Sereno seemingly knew he would not see his owner again when the vehicle carrying his casket arrived.
In a heart-wrenching moment, this big animal laid his head on his owner’s casket. The sadness in his eyes was evident to the family and friends who made this last march with Wagner.
“This horse was everything to him,” Wando told Globo News. “It was as if the horse knew what was happening and wanted to say goodbye.”
Sereno accompanied his owner through his last journey. While being led to his owner’s final resting place, the heartbroken horse could be heard crying all the time.
“All the way to the cemetery, he would whimper and beat with his hooves on the ground,” Wando said.
Thankfully, Sereno was not left all alone. Wando has decided to keep Sereno with him so they can grieve their loss together.
