Many women seek a safe and effortless method for losing weight. A lymphatic massage technique originating in Japan has become popular in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan for its weight-loss capabilities.

Ando Kyoka, the CEO of a Japanese beauty company, once weighed 176 pounds (80 kilograms). She developed a unique lymphatic massage technique for weight loss, which helped her shed 66 pounds (30 kilograms) over three years without increasing exercise or restricting her diet. Her body fat percentage also dropped from 39 percent to 20 percent.
Since she was young, Ms. Ando has had an exceptional appetite and was already overweight during her secondary school years. By the time she reached 26, her weight had reached 176 pounds (80 kilograms). She taught herself a lymphatic massage technique and experimented with it for six months, resulting in a weight loss of 33 pounds (15 kilograms). Three years later, she had shed 66 pounds (30 kilograms). This achievement propelled her into the spotlight of television and magazines. In 2008, Ms. Ando established her own business, opening beauty centers tailored for women, where she has served numerous women seeking weight loss and renewed confidence.

The Lymphatic System

The lymphatic system comprises lymphocytes (pdf), vessels, and lymph nodes, forming a network throughout the body. It plays a role in both the immune and circulatory systems. A disruption in lymphatic circulation can lead to various health issues.
Watanabe Yoshiko, an expert in lymphatic massage and the director of Ginza Natural Time in Japan, explains in her article that a lack of exercise, overeating, sleep deprivation, and prolonged high-stress living can all impact lymphatic circulation. Poor lymphatic circulation will accumulate waste substances, causing swelling, poor complexion, and a protruding belly. She said it is then difficult for people to lose weight, and they become irritable due to fatigue.

Through lymphatic massage, you can improve your physical condition, promote the body’s excretion of waste, improve blood flow, and dredge the stagnant parts, to create a lean, resilient body.

Taiwan’s popular TV show “Queen” and well-read health news have detailed Ms. Ando’s lymphatic massage technique. This method has stirred up heated discussion in Chinese media and among social-media influencers. The Epoch Times found that many weight loss coaches on the internet endorse this technique for localized weight loss. As early as 2017, the major Asian e-commerce platform Taobao recommended Ms. Ando’s lymphatic massage technique.

Specific Techniques and Benefits

Ms. Ando’s lymphatic massage technique is simple, easy to learn, and can be performed for just a few minutes daily. It promotes metabolism in the upper body and helps eliminate waste, achieving healthy weight loss.
A 40-year-old customer, Saya, shared her experience at Ms. Ando’s salon. “The most remarkable changes were in my abdomen and buttocks, and even my thighs became slimmer. Surprisingly, my laugh lines became less prominent, an effect I couldn’t achieve in other beauty salons.”
Joanne, a woman in her 20s, reported after two weeks of massage: “The pain in my left shoulder disappeared, and my body feels lighter.”

1. Arm Lymphatic Massage

Action 1: Extend your arm and push upward from below, pushing waste substances toward the lymph nodes in your armpits.
Action 2: Press and pull the flesh on both sides of your ribs next to the chest toward your heart.
Action 3: Squeeze and rotate the flesh on your arms outward. This stimulates lymphatic circulation, improving metabolism.
These three actions constitute one set of arm massages, with each arm massaged for two and a half minutes. Apply moderate pressure. This technique promotes lymphatic circulation in the upper body and has a bust-enhancing effect, too.

2. Abdominal Lymphatic Massage

Action 1: Lie flat and relaxed; use your fingertips to move downward from just below the chest toward the navel several times. This concentrates waste substances in the abdomen to the lymph nodes in the groin area.
Action 2: Place both hands on either side of the lower abdomen and rhythmically push the flesh toward the center of the belly, promoting fat burning.
Action 3: Use your fingers to draw circles clockwise around the navel, massaging the area. This stimulates intestinal activity, improving bowel movements and circulation and preventing colds.

These three actions constitute one set of abdominal massages, each performed for five minutes. Massage with moderate pressure.

Ms. Ando said this massage is unsuitable for individuals with fever, ongoing treatment for medical conditions, overly high expectations of results, those within six months of surgery, or those in poor health.

Additionally, wearing loose clothing during massage is important to avoid obstructing lymphatic circulation.
