The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, Marriott Rewards Round the Island Race took place last Sunday Nov 15, with 232 boats taking part in a full navigation of Hong Kong Island – a total of 26 nautical miles.
The Etchells World Championship 2015 organized and hosted by the Hong Kong Etchells Association and will be held near Nine Pins Islands, in the waters off Clearwater Bay between Sunday Nov 1 and Saturday Nov 7. As a precursor to this event, the Etchells Asia Pacific Championship took place at the same venue from Saturday Oct 24 to Monday Oct 26.
The Audi China Coast Regatta 2015, one of the most exciting regattas of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club season took place off the southern coast of Hong Kong.
The 2015 Edmond de Rothschild Autumn Regatta took place over the weekend (Sept 19-20) with 77 boats taking part over 11-classes. There was 1-race on Saturday and 2-races on Sunday, all taking place in Victoria Harbour.
The Hebe Haven Yacht Club’s Quest Yachting Typhoon Series 2015 came to a close with a final geometric race on Saturday afternoon, August 22. The weather was sunny with a better than expected breeze giving competitors an opportunity for an enjoyable sail.
The annual Mirs Bay Passage Race part of the Quest Yachting Typhoon Series, took place last Saturday Aug 2, 2015. In Light wind conditions Race Officer, Bob Vart, started the race from outside Port Shelter to obtain more breeze, but still only found a light wind of 6.5kt for the 62 boats covering seven race categories.
Day-2 of the Hebe Haven Yacht Club Quest Yachting Typhoon Series 2015 took place on June 21 with two geometric course races (Races-2 and -3) inside Port Shelter. The weather changed dramatically from the scorching sunshine at the Dragon Boat Championships the day before to a mixture of short heavy downpours intermingled with sunny periods.
The Hebe Haven Yacht Club UK Sailmakers Summer Saturday Series 2015 of 9-races commenced with two geometric course races on Saturday June 13 and will continue at fortnightly intervals until August 8.
Hong Kong International Match Racing Regatta organised by the Royal Hong Yacht Club was held last weekend (April 18-19) in Victoria Harbour with 8-teams competing.
HONG KONG—The weather that has been plaguing central China and causing floods in the Yangzi River drifted south and Hong Kong caught the cold draft and rain for a few days last week extending to Saturday April 11 causing sailors to don their wet suits. Such was the case for the 3rd day of the Jeanneau Spring Saturday Series races organised by Hebe Haven Yacht Club.
HONG KONG—The approach of Typhoon Maysak to the eastern shores of the Philippine archipelago upset the traditional, Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club organized, Easter race to the Philippines. Instead a shorter (approx 330nm) offshore race was organized, navigating four marks in the North China Sea and returning back to Hong Kong. This year (2015) should have been the biennial 480nm San Fernando race which alternates annually with the 565nm China Sea Race to Subic Bay.
HONG KONG—The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s Jeanneau Class Regatta held over last weekend at Shelter Cove on March 7-8, attracted 43 boats covering 5-Classes: Sports Boats, J80, Impala, Etchells and Dragon. All Classes, competed using the low scoring system, finished a total of 5-races over the 2-day regatta, with 1-discard allowed.
HONG KONG—Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Sailing Federation and the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, the Hong Kong Race Week 2015, incorporating the ASAF Youth Sailing Cup, was hosted at RHKYC Middle Island. The event took place over 6 days from Feb 12 to Feb 17, 2015 and attracted 207 entries with more than 240 competitors from around the region and from as far away as United Arab Emirates and India. Day-1 was a practice day.
HONG KONG—After four challenging days of racing involving 10-races Tam Nguyen helming “Zephyr” retained the Dragon Championship Series title on Sunday Jan 25 in the waters off Repulse Bay/Lamma Island. The series this year was extended from 6-races in 2013-14 to 10 races run over two consecutive weekends increasing the physical demands on the boats and crews. The extended time period for the series may, however, have deterred overseas internationals from taking part.
