Australia has recorded more than one earthquake a week during 2024, with Victoria being rocked by a 3.4 magnitude quake on Aug. 29.

A once considered extinct volcano in Russia’s far eastern corner may have woken up, and scientists are now warning of a potentially catastrophic eruption.

“The important thing I’m trying to get across is that we live in the financial capital of the world where a moderate earthquake of magnitude 5 or 6 close to the city could affect millions of people and potentially impact the world economy,” explained Nikolaou via e-mail.
