A number of mosques and religious groups across Australia have organised memorial services for the Iranian leader, sparking criticisms from politicians.

One attendee thanked U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

‘Many Australians in the Middle East are unable to leave due to airspace closures, including around major transit hubs,’ said Minister Penny Wong.

Police alleged the 73-year-old man had sent a series of menacing and offensive emails to a federal parliamentarian between May 2023 and December 2025.
