On March 21, 2016, the Hong Kong Rugby Union (HKRU) and The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) officially opened the Elite Rugby Training Centre (ETRC) at the THEi campus in Kowloon Tong. The HKRU also took the opportunity to announce the Elite Player Programme (ERP), for the 15 a-side game to the support the existing arrangements for the Hong Kong Men and Women Sevens squads.
On Saturday afternoon, in cold and chilly conditions at Sandy Bay Sports Ground, on the south side of Hong Kong Island, Societe Generale Valley sealed the Hong Kong Premiership league title, their first since the 2009/2010 season, by outplaying and outscoring close rivals, Leighton Asia Hong Kong Cricket Club, 45-10.
Saturday was a day of ‘nearly games’. The six teams in the Hong Kong Premiership played back-to-back matches at the Hong Kong Football Club on Saturday Jan 16, in the final ‘Super Saturday’ prior to the play-offs, and every game could have been won by either team.

Japan comfortably beat South Korea 66-10 in the 4th round of the Asian Rugby Championships in Fukuoka, and stamped their authority on the tournament for 2015.
In the 3rd round of the Asian Rugby Championship Japan comfortably beat Hong Kong 41-O at the Prince Chichibu Memorial Rugby Ground, in Tokyo on Saturday May 2. For Japan, it was another bonus point victory by scoring seven tries.
Hong Kong lost their opening match of the Asia Rugby Championship against South Korea, 26-33 on Saturday April 25, in front of a subdued Hong Kong crowd, even the Dragon mascot had a quiet game around the terraces! This was the second match of the top tier games in Asia: Korea lost to Japan 30-56, in the opening game last week in South Korea. This season, the elite division is only three teams, playing home and away. A home defeat for Hong Kong is a tough start to the competition. Victory for Korea away from home, against Hong Kong, is a very satisfying result.
HONG KONG—The top three clubs in the Hong Kong RFU Premiership all secured high scoring bonus point wins last weekend (Saturday Jan 24). Leaders Leighton Asia overcame bottom club Borrelli Walsh USRC Tigers 35-10, second placed Bloomberg HK Scottish scored a 44-6 victory over Abacus Kowloon and Societe Generale Valley outgunned NATIXIS HKFC 30-5.

The Hong Kong Rugby Football Premiership starts again this coming Saturday Jan 10 with Round-11 of this 15-Round league with current leaders of the standings, Leighton Asia HKCC meeting Natixis HKFC at Sports Road, second placed Bloomberg HK Scottish take on Borrelli Walsh USRC Tigers at King’s Park and 3rd placed Societe Generale Valley play Abacus Kowloon, also at King’s Park.
