Feb. 8, 2016, marks the Chinese New Year and the start of the Year of the Monkey. We pay tribute to the Monkey King from the novel “Journey to the West.”

From floating water sleeves and a zesty Mongolian dance, to mischievous little scholars and Monkey King action, students from the Fei Tian Academy of the Arts California brought refreshing classical Chinese dances to the audience at their end-of-year recital.
The idiom “True scripture is hard to acquire,” which is still widely used today in both spoken and written Chinese, originated from one of the four masterpiece novels in Chinese history “Journey to the West.” This novel is based on Monk Xuan Zang’s historical journey to India to acquire true Buddhist scriptures.
