Brantley Gilbert’s concert at the Cadence Bank Arena in Tupelo, Mississippi, came to a screeching halt last week after the country rock singer’s wife, Amber Cochran Gilbert, went into labor on their tour bus.

According to a video shared to the 39-year-old’s Instagram account on Oct. 12, the singer-songwriter—known for co-writing Jason Aldean’s hit songs “Dirt Road Anthem” and “My Kinda Party”—was rushed off stage on Friday shortly after his set began due to an “emergency backstage.”

A subsequent clip shows Gilbert on the tour bus alongside his wife and their newborn son, speaking on the phone with his mother, Becky. “You got a new grandbaby,” he said, calling his wife “a freaking savage.”

His mother responded: “I know she is. She’s amazing. She’s absolutely amazing.”

“So last night might have been the craziest night of my life,” Gilbert wrote in the video’s caption.

“Watching such an amazing woman do such an amazing thing is something I’ll never forget. Thank you to our road family for rallying around us, Brittany Thornton for helping us bring this little dude into the world, Tupelo, Mississippi for showing us mad love and support, and most of all… Amber Gilbert, for letting me love you and showing me EXACTLY how incredibly strong a woman can be. I love you.”

Gilbert’s wife shared a picture of their newborn baby, whom they named Abram, on Instagram shortly after his birth, writing: “We will never forget the way you got here and we can’t wait to see what you do here.”

‘We Got a Baby’

In an interview with Fox & Friends, which aired on Oct. 14, Gilbert explained that Abram had arrived a few days ahead of schedule.

“We actually had a midwife out with us, so we were prepared if it were to happen,” he offered. “But [Amber] had had a great night the night before, so we thought we had a week or so left and we didn’t.”

“I went from reading a book in the bed to calling the midwife in a matter of minutes, so I was just ready to get my show on the road,” new mother Cochran Gilbert shared. “I don’t know what I was thinking at that moment other than I have to get this baby out.”

The country singer emphasized that neither he nor his wife anticipated their baby arriving while he was mid-performance.

“We had kinda joked about it, [but] we didn’t really think in a million years it would happen during the show,” added Gilbert.

After helping deliver his son, the singer returned to the stage to finish his set. “We got a baby,” he told concertgoers, who erupted in cheers.

After exchanging wedding vows in June 2015, Gilbert and his wife celebrated the arrival of their first child, son Barrett, in November 2017. One year after his birth, Cochran Gilbert took to Instagram to share a touching message on her son’s first birthday.

“A year already... Happy Birthday to my angel baby,” she wrote on Nov. 11, 2018. “Watching you grow and being your mama is the best job I’ve ever had. I love your funny personality and your strong will. Keep it up baby boy. You have great things ahead of you. I love you!”

The family welcomed second child, daughter Braylen, two years later.

“And now we’re a family of 4,” Cochran Gilbert wrote via Instagram on Sept. 10, 2019. “Braylen Hendrix arrived yesterday at 1:18pm and weighed the exact same thing big brother Barrett did, 6 lbs and 7 oz. We’re smitten of course and so grateful for a healthy, happy baby girl.”

Music Career

Gilbert released his debut album, “A Modern Day Prodigal Son,” in October 2009.

The following year, he put out his sophomore album, “Halfway to Heaven,” featuring his hit songs “Kick It in the Sticks” and “Country Must Be Country Wide.” The album reached No. 2 on the iTunes Country Album Charts and soared to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Heatseekers Album Chart for all genres, per Opry.

The singer-songwriter went on to release “Just as I Am” (2014), “The Devil Don’t Sleep” (2017), “Fire & Brimstone” (2019), and “So Help Me God” (2022).

His most recent album, “Tattoos,” debuted last month and features songs “Dirty Money,” “Off the Rails,” and “God Isn’t Country,” among others.

“These 10 songs highlight everything from my faith to my family to everyday life and give a snapshot as to where I am right now as a husband, a father, and just a man,” Gilbert wrote via Instagram on Sept. 12 to mark his album’s release.

“I hope you love these songs as much as I do.”
