An English actor, who is better known for his roles in action-thriller movies, released a video in which he attempted a popular mixed martial arts challenge on July 1.
The “Transporter” and “Fast and Furious” star Jason Statham appeared in an impressive slow-motion video of him karate kicking the cap off a bottle. While performing the leg movement he kept a combative facial expression and body language to make his performance even more convincing.
“This thing landed on my head from John Mayer but will quickly go to a couple of fellas we’ve seen do push ups badly,” Statham said on
Instagram.
An Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) winner commended the actor on his perfect performance.
“Excellent job Jason Statham, I tip my cap to you,” two division UFC World Champion Conor McGregor said on
Twitter. “I’ll take it from here. I nominate Floyd Mayweather.”
Statham participated in the
Bottle Cap Challenge after UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway dared Singer John Mayer to try the popular activity.
“Be curious my friends ... passing this on to our guy John Mayer,” Holloway said on
Instagram. “Hey John, if you can’t complete this challenge Errolson Hugh and I decided you have to come to Hawaii after your tour and kick it with us until you complete it.”
Mayer, in turn, challenged Statham to try the Bottle Cap Challenge.
“First Errolson Hugh did it, then Max Holloway followed, and challenged me,” Mayer said on
Instagram. “I now challenge Jason Statham.”
According to
CNN, the challenge involves placing a bottle on an elevated surface and unscrewing the cap until it is loosely secured. The challenger then must perform a spinning kick movement to use the sole of the shoe to completely unscrew the cap and send it flying off the bottle neck without causing the bottle to fall.
The video is often edited to play in slow motion for a more dramatic effect.
Other challengers have included celebrities like UFC Champion Conor McGregor and Singer John Mayer, who took on the Bottle Cap Challenge at the request of Statham and performed a perfect spinning kick, maintaining a serious face while inspecting his handiwork afterwards.
Statham also challenged the director of Sherlock Holmes and Disney classic Aladdin, Guy Ritchie, to try the Bottle Cap Challenge too.
“All yours Guy Ritchie,” Statham said.
The New York Post speculates the Bottle Cap Challenge started after Taekwondo Champion Farabi Davletchin posted a video of the spinning kick movement on Instagram. Acronym Fashion Designer Errolson Hugh copied the move and challenged Holloway who, in turn, challenged Statham.
Even Holloway’s son appeared on a
video to support the Bottle Cap Challenge.
The challenge does not seem to be raising money for any charitable cause.
