An employee was behind the posting of articles calling for the assassination of a member of Congress and claiming that the governor of Texas wanted illegal immigrants slaughtered, the New York Post said on Oct. 27.
“The New York Post’s investigation indicates that the unauthorized conduct was committed by an employee, and we are taking appropriate action,” a spokesperson for the paper told media outlets in a statement. “This morning, we immediately removed the vile and reprehensible content from our website and social media accounts.”
The employee was fired, the spokesperson added.
The Post has not identified the worker.
The paper initially said it was hacked after a slew of articles were published, including an op-ed that called for the assassination of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) “for America,” according to images and archived versions of the articles reviewed by The Epoch Times.
Another story alleged that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said he ordered U.S. Border Patrol agents to start slaughtering illegal aliens.
Articles about New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Eric Adams also appeared before being removed.
They were promoted on the Post’s official Twitter account.
After removing the articles and posts, the Post said on Twitter: “The New York Post has been hacked. We are currently investigating the cause.”
The Post has not published an article explaining what happened and has issued no further updates on its Twitter account.
Ocasio-Cortez did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Jen Goodman, a spokesperson for Hochul, called on the Post to “immediately explain how this reprehensible content was made public.”
