Christina Ricci is set to make her Broadway debut in the play ’Time Stands Still‘ on Thursday, saying that she will have to fight stage fright in the process.
She will replace Alicia Silverstone in the role of Mandy Bloom.
“It’s been a really long time since I’ve walked into a situation and had no idea about anything,” the 30-year-old actress told Time Out New York. “I don’t even know how people usually learn their lines. I decided to approach it like the periodic table—I made flash cards.”
Ricci, who has only performed in the play’s previous shows, will star in the play eight times a week until January in the Donald Margulies’ play, opposite to Laura Linney, Brian D'Arcy James and Eric Bogosian. There are only four characters in the play.
Ricci told the UK Press Association that she is “really, really, really against” performing live due to stage fright. “So the idea of doing a play for years was just like, ‘Are you kidding?” she added.
However, she said that the experience has been fresh and “totally different than anything I’ve ever done.”
“It’s sort of fascinating the things that happen when you’re out there,” she said. “It’s kind of like being on a really long first date - with somebody you really like.”
