A Chinese-American artist’s new anime series that mocks and criticizes the Chinese communist regime and its followers has gained popularity among Chinese worldwide.
The story is set in the near future, after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has taken over the world and people live in a typical CCP-controlled society without freedom, such as “social credit” scores, literary censorship, and massive surveillance of citizens.
The anime depicts how people who are unwilling to accept this system rebel and are suppressed by the regime. Some of the images are taken from historical photos of the anti-extradition movement in Hong Kong in 2019, with the caption: “To my friends in Hong Kong, stand with Hong Kong!”
The video, with English subtitles, received 491,000 views and 30,000 likes in a week after it was released.
It resonates with many people from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and around the world, who have left heartfelt comments under the video.
One read: “As a mainland Chinese, my eyes filled with tears when I watched this. I feel sorry for the people of Hong Kong. I hope that the people of Taiwan will hold on to the last free land.”
An Australian media person and Hong Kong immigrant Dr. Song Lin told The Epoch Times that because this film portrays scenes of Hong Kong people being beaten by the police during the anti-extradition movement in 2019 against the CCP’s encroachment of Hong Kong’s judicial independence, Hong Kong people will have deep feelings after watching it. “The spirit of Hong Kong people is to fight for democracy and freedom. In the face of the authoritarian regime, we all stand up bravely.”
Mr. Lin said that this video is not just about China and Hong Kong under the rule of the CCP, but the whole world is facing the infiltration and suppression of the CCP.
“The whole world is facing the same situation. What this cartoon says is that in 2077, the United States is no longer a democratic and free society. People in the United States are monitored by the [CCP’s] dictatorship, and everyone has to wear a mask. That mask is a smiling face.”
‘The Life of Little Pinks’
On Oct. 28, the “MrMarmot” channel also uploaded a 12-minute anime “The Life of Little Pinks.”The anime depicts the current situation of young people under the rule of the CCP. It humorously and satirically tells the story of Chinese young people who have been brainwashed in ignorance, and as a result, have blind double standards and out-of-control words and deeds without logic.
The video gained more than 1.3 million views and 10,000 comments in about three weeks, and was widely circulated on overseas social media platforms.
Chinese netizens expressed that the video is very relatable.
“As a Chinese, I can only say that this video is too realistic... The colleagues around me are complaining about how the company is squeezing them, while they are envious of working abroad, and at the same time, they are scolding ‘foreign forces,’” one said in a comment.
Mr. Lin said that Chinese people have indeed been horribly changed by the CCP. Some are in China, and some are overseas but are still being voluntarily brainwashed. “I have some relatives in Australia who have left China for more than 20 years, but they only read things on WeChat and don’t read other media. They are still ‘frogs in the well.’”
