Brian Ludmer, a teacher at Calabasas High School in California, was shot during the LAX shooting on Friday.
The shooting left one TSA agent dead and wounded several others; the shooter, Paul Ciancia, is in custody.
Ludmer came face-to-face with Ciancia in Terminal 3 at the Los Angeles International Airport, and quickly turned to run away.
He did escape with his life, but not before being shot at least once in the leg, Las Virgenes schools Supt. Dan Stepenosky told the LA Times.
Ludmer managed to make it to a closet and closed the door. He waited until he thought it was safe, and emerged. A police officer rushed him into a waiting ambulance.
Ludmer, 29, underwent surgery at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
He will likely need additional surgery but is expected to recover.
Ludmer is the theater director at Calabasas High School. He was slated to spend the weekend at a friend’s wedding, and associated events.
Ludmer’s mother took a flight to Los Angeles to see him on Friday, ABC reported.
Five victims overall were taken to hospitals in the Los Angeles area after being shot.
