The daughter of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah has slammed the Daily Mail for a false report.
The British tabloid ran an article on Sunday, March 31 claiming that Zaharie’s wife and daughter had spoken to them about him.
Faizah Khanum Mustafa Khan, Zaharie’s wife, allegedly told the Daily Mail that Zaharie had “retreated into a shell“ weeks before the flight went missing, while Zaharie’s daughter, Aishah Zaharie, supposedly said that Zaharie ”wasn’t the father I knew. He seemed disturbed and lost in a world of his own.”
Aishah Zaharie has since claimed that the Daily Mail was “making up stories.”
“May God have mercy on your souls. You can bet I will not forgive you,” she wrote in a Facebook posting.
According to The Malaysian Insider, only Zaharie’s son, Ahmad Seth, had spoken to the Daily Mail.
Mohammad Ghouse, a friend of Captain Zaharie, said he had spoken to all members of the family, and they confirmed that the report was “a total lie”.
“They cannot come out in the open to refute, they are not able to surface ... could you imagine the nightmare that these irresponsible people are causing them?” said Dr Ghouse.
According to The Star Online, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said that speculative reports not only harm the reputation of Captain Zaharie’s family, but also impede ongoing investigations of the pilot’s background and mental state.
“There are too many speculations, so we have to be very careful what we read,” said Inspector-General Khalid.
“Even [Zaharie’s] daughter has denied, yet there are media (foreign) who intentionally write things, which are not correct.”
“If there is anything, I will make an announcement. But we have to understand that this is being investigated, and we are afraid that it could jeopardize our investigations,” Inspector-General Khalid added.
