This shopper would never have expected that while buying food for Thanksgiving at Walmart she would literally bump into an Academy Award-winning actor—and nobody else but Jon Voight, Angelina Jolie’s dad!

Sydney Gholston was in Kentucky Walmart, and she had six frozen turkeys in her shopping cart. They were for the children at the Home of the Innocents, an NGO shelter. Standing at the checkout, waiting her turn to pay, she heard a friendly voice behind her commenting on the number of frozen turkeys she had in her cart.

Sydney smiled and turned around, only to see, to her total amazement, the famous actor Jon Voight standing next to her in real life!

“I was helping the lady scan the turkeys and the man behind me said, ‘You must have a big family. That’s an awful lot of turkeys,’” said Gholston, according to ABC News. “I said, ‘I work at the Home of the Innocents.’”

“I looked up and said, ‘You look a lot like Angelina Jolie’s dad’ and he said, ‘Why would I look like that?’” Gholston said. “He joked around with me at first.”

Voight told her he was working on a film in town and had just dropped by the store when he noticed all the frozen turkeys in her cart, so he just had to ask. Sydney explained that she was on an errand to pick up the turkeys and that they were for the children at the center. Voight immediately took out his wallet and generously offered to pay for the groceries.

Sydney thanked Voight for his kind gesture and then asked to have a picture taken of them in the store.

Everyone at the Home of the Innocents was overjoyed at Sydney’s chance encounter with the actor, and staff were extremely grateful for his kindness.

“We were so appreciative of his kindness! He was very interested in the Home and the services that we provide,” the shelter’s marketing manager, Meredith Pack, told CBS.

The Home of the Innocents Facebook page posted the happy moment, and the photo has since gone viral.

One user commented, “That is an awesome act of kindness.”

Another said, “Makes one grateful that there is good people out there, now let us do our part and show acts of kindness.”

Yet another posted, “Way to go, sir, thank you for taking care of those families.”
