Curiosity can be a double-edged sword.
On March 8, Anhui TV Public Channel reported a traffic accident in China: A male motorcyclist failed to stop on a red light, and was hit by a car. After falling to the ground, the unfortunate man was almost immediately run over by the car behind the first one.
The tragedy didn’t end there. A woman standing on the opposite side of the road from where the accident took place slowly walked up to the side of the intersection and began gawking at the injured man from afar. Seconds later, the woman was hit by a truck which executed a poor left turn as the truck driver tried to avoid hitting another car on the opposite lane.
It is unclear where this accident took place; the current condition of both the motorcyclist and woman onlooker.
When discussing the accident on the popular Chinese news portal Sina, netizens showed very little sympathy for the woman. One netizen from Jiangxi wrote: “Curiosity kills.” Another netizen from Guangdong wrote: “This is what is called unnecessarily seeking your own death.”
“Rubbernecking is one of Chinese people’s worst traits,” said a Tianjin netizen going by the name “Qin Quan 159.”
