As rumors continue to fly about the next-generations of the iPhone 4G and Nexus One, Verizon threw yet another heavy-weight next-generation smartphone into the ring by announcing the HTC Droid Incredible on Monday.

Verizon posted on their official web page that the new HTC Droid Incredible phone would be released on April 29. Customers are able to pre-order the phone; the phone is expected to sell out due to the popularity surrounding upcoming Android phones which are based on technology from Google.

The latest HTC Sense seven-panel faceplate features HTC’s Sense UI, which has won accolades for its easy-to-use interface, as well as the ability to allow users to run Google Android 2.1 applications.

The phone features a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Friend Stream for unified Flickr, Facebook and Twitter updates along with the “Leap” view for quick access to all seven home screen panels.

The new HTC Droid Incredible model also comes with an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, a 3.7 inch WVGA touch display, joystick, and Wi-Fi wireless Internet capability. The Incredible also has an 8 GB on-board memory for storage.

The Android platform now boasts close to 30,000 applications, and Android-based phones have shown an incredible leap in marketshare over the past few months, mostly taking away marketshare from Microsoft Windows-based phones.

The HTC Droid Incredible is listed for sale at $199.00 with a $100.00 mail in rebate only which is applicable when customers sign up for a two-year service with Verizon Wireless which includes voice and data services.

Verizon’s home page features a banner stating “The next chapter in the Droid saga begins April 29.” Given the amount of marketing muscle that Verizon threw behind the Motorola Droid a few months ago during its launch, that may well be true.
