There’s reckless drivers in China, and then there’s reckless, brazen types.
Recently in Guizhou, a southwestern province of China, three people on a small motorcycle were knocked onto the floor of an icy, narrow road by the rear door of a big red truck that was traveling in the opposite direction. The truck’s rear door had suddenly sprung open, giving the motorcyclists no time to dodge.
The truck driver continued driving, seemingly unaware that he had caused an accident. The rear door, now swinging dangerously open, nearly hit another motorcyclist and pedestrians at an intersection.
After local police tracked down the hit-and-run vehicle, the truck driver, who apparently didn’t even possess a licence, got a friend to act as a scapegoat.
“I said I was the driver when the police came asking,” the friend told China Central Television.
Police later arrested the actual truck driver after discovering inconsistencies during their investigations.
