Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon made an official statement to the media through Sarandon’s publicist, announcing their breakup over the summer after a 23-year-long relationship. The announcement has left many fans wondering what circumstances were responsible for the breakup.

Teal Cannaday, publicist for Susan Sarandon, broke the news to People magazine but did not offer any explanation for the end of their partnership.

“Actress Susan Sarandon and her partner of 23 years, actor Tim Robbins, have announced that they separated over the summer. No further comments will be made,” Cannaday said to People Magazine.

The couple have been together since 1988 and met while filming “Bull Durham.” Sarandon won an Oscar for her role in 1995’s “Dead Man Walking,” and Robbins received an Academy Award for his part in “Mystic River,” which was filmed in 2003.

As a couple, the pair made headlines outside of their acting careers for heavy involvement with liberal media campaigns. Both were strongly against the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Hollywood is not an environment known for stability and long-lasting marriages, let alone relationships. Robbins and Sarandon had two sons while they were together but never got married. Their shying away from marriage attracted attention from the media throughout the years.
