NEW YORK—New York City is famous for its innumerable restaurants, offering a wide range of ethnic and specialty foods across the five boroughs, and seafood is no exception. For me, in no small part because of this summer’s oil leak in the Gulf region, seafood hasn’t necessarily been the choice that immediately comes to mind. But officially polluted areas are legally off-limits for fishing, so let’s not let the spill limit the possibilities!

The year 2010 marked the start of a new rating system by the city’s department of Health. Since July, restaurants are required to post letter grades showing the results of their sanitary inspections. An inspection score of 0-13 is an A, 14-27 points a B, 28 or more points a C.

Out of more than 300 spots listed as “seafood restaurants”, only 13 received a perfectly “clean bill of health” with no violations at all. Here is The Epoch Times take on the matter: the top 10 cleanest spots where you can find a variety of seafood dishes in the Big Apple. They range from quick take-out spots to healthy fine dining, from franchises to unique dining experiences. Believe it or not, but there are even some Subway establishments in the mix. For each restaurant, we include the date of the last inspection. Let’s begin with our first locale!
