The Roots Recaps ‘Game of Thrones’ With Rap Song on ’Jimmy Fallon’

Updated:

An astonishing 7.9 million viewers tuned into the Season Six premiere of “Game of Thrones”—almost matching season five’s premiere.

And for those who were unable to watch the HBO’s series—no worries—The Roots have you covered.

On the April 27 airing of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Fallon received a letter from a fan asking for a recap of the popular show.

“Hey Jimmy, I missed Sunday’s night ”Game of Thrones“ premiere,” read Fallon. “I don’t think I’m going to have time to watch before next Sunday’s episode—is there any way you can get me caught up?”

Fallon unable to do so himself, suggested that Tariq ‘Black Thought’ Trotter—member of in-house band, The Roots—does so.

Black Thought began his rap with the beginning happenings of the episode, in which he rapped: “opened with Jon Snow who died at the end of Season Five—even though Melisandre still thinks he’s alive.”

He continued to share more spoilers from the first episode, including Theon Greyjoy’s escape from Ramsay as well as the Dothraki catching Daenerys Targaryen and sending her back to Vaes Dothrak. The show runs for an hour but Black Thought was able to catch fans up in less than a minute with his verse.

Trotter is an avid fan of the “Game of Thrones” series, having recapped the premiere of Season 5  last year as well.
